  • Leadership Lessons from Dogs

I never had the chance to grow up with dogs, so when I got my first puppy as an adult, I had to Google just about everything, from what dogs can eat to how to train them.

One thing that I would always come across is the phrase “it’s never the dog’s fault” in regards to the dog doing something wrong, such as peeing on the carpet or going through the trash, or any other action the owner doesn’t like. Though I don’t completely agree with the statement, it definitely taught me a lot about accountability, leadership, and even parenting.

Sometimes we like to blame anything and anyone for why something bad happened. We have to take a step back and see what part we played in the situation. I know a lot of the “bad” things that my dog does are a result of me not doing what I was supposed to do.

My dog might pee on the carpet, which is bad, but maybe I took too long to take her out, or I gave her too much water, or I wasn’t looking at her cues telling me that she had to potty.

Parenting can be the same way. A child can misbehave and get into a lot of trouble, but the child can’t take all of the blame. Maybe it’s the parent’s fault. However your life turns out, whether good or bad, it might not be anyone’s fault but yours. You also influence those that you’re in charge of, as well as those that you’re often around.

Understand that you have a bigger influence on them than you think, and make the right choices, as well as hold yourself accountable when needed.

  • Life’s Unpredictable, Stay Positive.

What having a baby has taught me is that having a plan is great, but life is unpredictable, and that’s okay.

Newborn babies can be unpredictable, making it hard to plan their eating, sleeping, or daily activities. If my baby decides to stay up late, I may not be able to go to bed early, as planned. As Andre 3000 said, “you can plan a pretty picnic, but you can’t predict the weather.”

It’s important to be able to quickly adjust to unforeseen problems and make the next right move. Instead of complaining about not getting enough sleep, I accept things for what they are, take care of my baby, and find something productive to do while up late at night (or my wife does, I still try get my sleep at times LOL).

The same applies to football. Our offense may plan to score, but we might throw an interception instead. We can’t let that one bad play get in the way of winning the game. The defense would have to go out there and respond and help salvage the offense’s mistakes.

Even if small plans don’t go accordingly, it’s important to keep the right attitude and motivation to achieve the big goals. Don’t let one minor setback derail your entire journey towards achieving your big plan.

  • Predict Actions, Secure Success

If you were to examine the totality of your choices and actions, you would likely realize that they are very similar to those of others who are in a similar place in their life.

This was apparent to me during my football-playing days. In college, my teammates and I had comparable schedules, habits, and lifestyles, from attending classes and working out, to our diets, off-field decisions, and even our character. The same held true for my experience in the NFL. Similarly, players who made similar bad decisions ended up in similar bad predicaments.

Essentially, your actions are a strong predictor of your future. Achieving what we want in life is much simpler than we tend to believe. We just need to study those who are in a position in life where we’d like to be, or doing something we’d like to do, and emulate their actions.

Additionally, surrounding ourselves with those who share similar goals and aspirations can make the process even easier. However, to succeed, we must avoid doing things that are counterproductive to our aspirations. We just need to follow the laws of success and we can achieve our goals.

  • Staggered Blessings

Sometimes, blessings and opportunities are not always consistent with your faith and hard work. There may be times when you feel like nothing is happening, while at other times, the blessings are flowing in.

This is where having faith comes into play. You must believe that good things will come, even if it is not at the time you expect them. The key to receiving blessings is by making the right choices, and having faith and works.

No matter what you are pursuing, keep going and don’t give up. You never know when you will be rewarded, but you will eventually. It’s all about persistence and perseverance in achieving your goals.

  • Your Unique Journey

Comparison can be a dangerous game. It’s easy to look at someone else’s life and feel like you’re not measuring up. But the truth is, everyone’s journey is different. You can’t compare your own path to someone else’s because they haven’t faced the same challenges or experienced the same successes as you.

As they say, “comparison is the thief of joy.” When you constantly compare yourself to others, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment and feelings of inadequacy. Instead of focusing on what you lack, it’s important to compare yourself to your past self.

If you’re not happy with where you stand in life, that’s okay. Use it as motivation to make progress. It’s crucial to recognize that progress looks different for everyone. Someone else’s achievements don’t invalidate your own accomplishments.

Don’t forget that the only thing you have control over is your own journey. You can’t control how quickly others progress, but you can control your own progress. Life isn’t a race, and there’s no prize for reaching the finish line first.

It’s easy to get caught up in the comparison game, but it’s important to remember that you’re on your own unique journey. Comparing yourself to others will only lead to feelings of inadequacy and disappointment. Instead, celebrate your progress and focus on your own personal growth.

  • One Roach, Many Fans

They say that when you see one roach, odds are, there are many more around that you can’t see. Hopefully, you didn’t know that fact. If you’ve seen a roach at your place lately, sorry, I’m not trying to scare you LOL.

I think supporters or even viewers are the same as roaches. You might only see one person who supports you or has complimented and professed their appreciation of your work, but best believe that there are many more out there who feel the same exact way.

Having that one person show their appreciation should be very encouraging for you. It’s a good sign that you are on the right path and that you are on the brink of reaching more people.

You might get discouraged when you see one roach, but if you have just one supporter, you should be very encouraged. Keep going.

  • Soulmate Search Simplified

Finding “the one” can be a challenge, but for me, it was quite easy to know that my wife was the one. We share many similarities, but also have differences that allow us both to learn and grow. Perhaps the most important aspect of our relationship is that she is a good person in general. This is crucial because I couldn’t be with someone who is nice to me but treats others poorly. Additionally, she gets along well with my family, which is important to me.

However, the most significant factor that made me realize she was the one was that I couldn’t imagine my life without her. Whenever I thought about my future and everything I wanted to achieve in life, she was always a part of it. I’ve never felt that way about anyone else before. Our daily interactions further confirmed that she was the one for me.

I believe that when it comes to finding your soulmate, you just know. It’s a feeling that can’t be explained or analyzed too much. It’s important not to settle for anything less than that feeling. If you feel like someone isn’t the one, it’s better to move on than to waste time. Your soulmate is out there waiting for you.

  • Plan For Success

It all starts with a plan. Whenever you want to accomplish something, plan it first. This will give you more guidance when you start and the confidence needed to begin, as an efficient plan shows you what’s possible if you follow it.

Sometimes, we may have a big goal that we want to achieve, but we get overwhelmed when we think about everything that needs to be done. Creating a great plan can help you not feel so overwhelmed and show that the task isn’t so bad when you break it down into smaller pieces.

Having a plan is only half the battle. You must also trust and stick to the plan. No matter what you want to do in life, know that it’s possible, and create a plan to do it.

  • Developing Your Natural Gifts

Many of us have natural gifts or a great vision for something, but lack the necessary skills to achieve our goals. Although someone may be less naturally talented than you, they can surpass you by putting in the work to learn the craft. Therefore, it is important to follow your instincts and pursue the things you are naturally good at and interested in, while also learning the skills required to reach your full potential.

Your future and success depend on your willingness to develop your natural gifts. Take the time to explore your passions and develop your skills, even if it requires a lot of effort and hard work. This will enable you to reach your full potential and achieve your goals.

It is important to remember that developing your natural gifts is a process that requires dedication, hard work, and perseverance. You must be willing to learn, grow, and push through setbacks in order to achieve success. But with patience and determination, you can overcome any obstacle and reach your full potential.

Pursuing your passions and developing your natural gifts is crucial to achieving success. Don’t let your lack of skills hold you back from achieving your goals. Take the time to learn and grow, and you will be amazed at what you can accomplish. Your future and success are waiting for you, so go out there and pursue your dreams.

  • Sky’s the Limit: Evolving Continuously

Just when someone thinks they have you figured out, switch it up on them again. Show a different side of yourself that you’ve never shown before. Learn something that they’d never think you’d learn and do something that they’d never think you’d do.

A lot of times, people think they have you figured out, but they don’t. You’re more than what you’ve done; you are forever growing. Pay attention to those who won’t allow you to grow.

The sky’s the limit and you can do and achieve whatever you want in life, at any period of your life.
