Mastering Your Mind

Thoughts become things. Our thoughts have the power to manifest into reality. That’s good when it comes to positive thinking and goal achievement.

Sometimes our thoughts can be our biggest downfall. There are thoughts we shouldn’t think anymore, things such as past trauma or past mistakes. Those things have happened in the past, but as long as we still dwell on them, we give them power to control us in the present or future.

Just like in sports, you’re supposed to have a short memory in order to continue to perform to the best of your ability; the same goes for real life.

It’s key to deal with a situation and then not think about it ever again. I know it’s easier said than done, but it’s possible nonetheless.

Balancing Advice and Authenticity in Life

There is a delicate balance between taking the advice and guidance of others and forging your own path.

In certain aspects of life, there will always be individuals with more experience than you who can offer assistance. However, this does not necessarily mean that they possess all the answers.

Although I may desire the best for someone and offer my counsel, it is ultimately up to them whether or not they choose to heed it. I am content with this outcome. It is crucial to listen to others, while also embracing your own unique qualities and devising your approach to a situation. As Drake once said, “as long as the outcome is income,” or as long as the intentions and results of a circumstance are positive.

The key is to strike a balance between accepting advice from others and following your instincts or natural inclinations.

Life’s Unpredictable, Stay Positive.

What having a baby has taught me is that having a plan is great, but life is unpredictable, and that’s okay.

Newborn babies can be unpredictable, making it hard to plan their eating, sleeping, or daily activities. If my baby decides to stay up late, I may not be able to go to bed early, as planned. As Andre 3000 said, “you can plan a pretty picnic, but you can’t predict the weather.”

It’s important to be able to quickly adjust to unforeseen problems and make the next right move. Instead of complaining about not getting enough sleep, I accept things for what they are, take care of my baby, and find something productive to do while up late at night (or my wife does, I still try get my sleep at times LOL).

The same applies to football. Our offense may plan to score, but we might throw an interception instead. We can’t let that one bad play get in the way of winning the game. The defense would have to go out there and respond and help salvage the offense’s mistakes.

Even if small plans don’t go accordingly, it’s important to keep the right attitude and motivation to achieve the big goals. Don’t let one minor setback derail your entire journey towards achieving your big plan.

The Importance of Presence

Having a newborn baby is a life-changing experience that really makes you realize the importance of the present moment. As a parent, I am responsible for my baby’s wellbeing and future. That requires me to be fully present and attentive here and now. It makes me understand that I don’t know everything, and makes me want to learn something new everyday to become a better and more efficient parent. It also teaches me to appreciate the small moments and milestones that make up my baby’s growth and development.

Parenthood has taught me to stay in the present as opposed to dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. I know if I do what’s needed at this very moment, everything else will work itself out. It’s hard to think about anything else when your baby is hungry or needs their diaper changed, and that’s ok.

I now understand the importance of presence. Not just with my baby, but in all avenues of life. It’s really about doing the most important thing right now, then moving on to the next most important thing. Rather it’s my baby or my life, I know if I stay present and do what’s needed in that moment, the future will handle itself. Because “the future of the future is the present”
