The Virtue of Patience

Patience is a virtue that is critical to have in all aspects of our lives. We have to be patient with those with whom we interact, such as family, friends, children, etc. We have be patient with ourselves. We have to be patient when it comes to success.

When your patience isn’t good with others, you can form anger problems and even treat others in a way that doesn’t best represent you. If you don’t have patience when it comes to success, you might try to take a shortcut. Those shortcuts might be things that compromise your morals and values.

I think having good patience is a natural gift for some and can also be learned if it does not come naturally. Nonetheless, patience is something that is very crucial for us to have in order to maintain positive relationships, happiness, and even success.

Small Actions, Big Impact

The “compound effect” is a principle that states that small, consistent actions taken over a period of time can lead to significant results or outcomes. Essentially, it is the accumulation of many small actions or habits that build upon each other over time.

This effect can be observed in various areas of life, but its impact on our personal growth is often overlooked. We can learn many things throughout our lives, and one day, these accumulated experiences will hit on all cylinders.

There may be skills or concepts that we initially struggled with, but we’ve managed to acquire them over time without realizing it. We should not be too hard on ourselves when it comes to learning and growing since we should trust that the compound effect will happen naturally.

The fascinating thing is that we never know when it will happen, but we will undoubtedly recognize it when it does. However, we must be cautious since the compound effect can be negative as well.

If we consistently practice bad habits or engage in negative activities, the compound effect will still work, but in a way that we do not want. Therefore, it is crucial to strive to be the person we aspire to be by doing things that help us grow and improve.

Our personal compound effect will occur, so it is essential to make it a good one. By consistently taking small, positive actions in areas where we want to see change, we will gradually achieve our goals and create significant positive changes in our lives.

Putting Yourself First

What does putting yourself first mean to you?

Generally speaking, putting yourself first simply means not neglecting your own needs, whether they be physical, emotional, or mental.

For me, putting myself first means doing whatever needs to be done in order for me to reach my full potential in all aspects of life. It involves understanding that there will be delayed gratification in many of my actions, and that there will be many sacrifices.

Putting yourself first isn’t about doing whatever you want to do or whatever makes you happy. Many of our vices may make us happy, but that doesn’t mean we should prioritize them. It’s also not an excuse to be a selfish person. It’s about doing what is necessary for the best outcome.

For example, if I want to put myself first (and in 1st Place) when running track, I have to do many things before the track meet to ensure I come in first, such as training, resting, and getting good nutrition. You have to understand that putting yourself first isn’t always about doing all the things you enjoy all the time. It’s about following the laws of success and doing what needs to be done in order to experience the happiness and peace of mind that you want.

Putting yourself first isn’t always about meditating or positive affirmations. It’s about hard work and dedication, and doing whatever you need to do (whether you like it or not) to be where you want to be. Put yourself first, not your bad habits or tendencies.

Unleashing Your True Potential

Sometimes we are not aware of how much knowledge and wisdom we have acquired until we apply it. It is similar to the saying “knowledge is not power until it is applied”.

We may not realize how much we have learned until we challenge ourselves to use it in situations where it is necessary.

Personally, I have studied Spanish for years, and it was only when I started speaking and listening to it more that I realized how much I had learned.

We should put ourselves in situations that require us to use the knowledge we have gained and not underestimate ourselves, as we know much more than we think.

Humility and Balance in Life

In football, when you watch your game or practice footage, they always tell you that your performance is never as good or bad as you think.

You can’t get too excited about your film, nor can you get too discouraged to watch it either. This teaches you to stay humble and not let success get to your head, while also teaching you not to get too down on yourself when things don’t go as planned.

Ultimately, the lesson of not getting too high or too low applies to all aspects of life. Whether it’s in sports or in our personal and professional lives, staying grounded and level-headed is key to long-term success and fulfillment. By keeping this lesson in mind, we can all strive to become better versions of ourselves every day.

Lessons from My First Job

Apart from my football career, I have only had two other jobs in my life. My first job was at Abercrombie & Fitch when I was 17, earning $7.40 per hour.

Looking back, it seems crazy to think about. However, I appreciate that job and what it taught me. It made me realize the importance of those who have supported me, especially my mom, as that wage was certainly not enough to live on. I also learned that making the right choices can lead to a significant increase in wages.

Situations can be temporary, and it’s important to keep that in mind. This experience also highlights the value of profits over wages. As Jim Rohn eloquently puts it, “profits are better than wages. Wages will make you a living, profits can make you a fortune.”

Present Progress, Future Success

There may be many things you wish to accomplish in life, yet these aspirations can seem unattainable in your current situation.

For instance, I would love to have a couple of kids, but it’s hard to even imagine while caring for my newborn baby. My focus is on her growth and development and the next right move.

However, just because your big goals appear unappealing or unattainable now, doesn’t mean they won’t happen in the future. It’s easy to become so fixated on the big picture that you overlook the smaller goals and tasks right in front of you.

Appreciate where you are in life at present and concentrate on what needs doing now. This will make your larger goals more achievable and reduce your stress level.

Embrace Life’s Imperfections

Not everything has to go your way or perfectly as planned. There may be days when small inconveniences, such as forgetting your wallet at home, or big inconveniences, such as losing your job, happen. Either way, it’s okay.

Life goes on, and you’ll realize that the problem you have isn’t all that big in the grand scheme of things.

And when you think about it, most of the fun and eventful moments come from when things don’t go as planned. Embrace them and keep moving forward.

Keeping It Positive

Yesterday, while I was driving, someone cut me off. At first, I had the urge to retaliate, but it only lasted for a second.

Afterwards, I didn’t care anymore. I was having a good day and I chose to continue to have one.

I realized that I shouldn’t let someone else’s actions dictate my feelings. It’s important not to make a big deal out of the little things and just keep moving forward in life.

Conducive Environments

Sometimes, even with the right mindset and ideas, one’s environment can hinder them from achieving their goals.

Currently, I am trying to establish a routine of sleeping earlier than usual. While I may have good intentions, I sometimes find it difficult to fall asleep at my desired time due to my environment. Therefore, I am working on creating a conducive sleeping environment for myself. This means avoiding the use of electronics before sleeping, ensuring that the room is quiet and dark, and engaging in relaxing activities before bedtime, such as reading or praying.

Similarly, the same concept applies to all aspects of life. Even with big aspirations and goals, an unsupportive environment can prevent their realization. Although one may not always have control over their environment, they can control their actions and intentions.

For instance, growing up, I faced numerous distractions and negative influences in the environment I lived in. However, I was able to make intentional choices and surround myself with positive people, which ultimately helped me change my environment.

It is important to ensure that one’s environment is conducive to their goals and aspirations. If you find it hard to reach your goals and aspirations, maybe a change of environment will help.
