Fostering Creativity: Conquering Self-Doubt

Albert Einstein once said, “Creativity is seeing what others see and thinking what no one else has ever thought.”

I believe that’s an essential part of creativity. The other part is simply having the will and courage to follow through on that creative thought or idea. That’s often the aspect that holds us back.

We might possess the creativity, but we could also harbor self-doubt or timidity. The creative idea you have might be outstanding; you just need to see it through. Accomplishing that alone already sets you apart from many other creatives.

Power of Consistent Effort

Sometimes it’s just about who can be the most consistent for the longest.

Throughout my entire life, whether it was in sports, school, or just life in general, I always knew that my longevity of success would result from consistency.

In sports, I knew I could make every practice, consistently maintain the right attitude, keep good grades, and consistently make the right choices off the field. I knew that if I could do that, I would be ahead of those who could not. I knew that if it came down to natural ability, I’d always have a shot; I just had to be consistent for the opportunities to present themselves and for the compound effect to work.

If you’re passionate about something and can consistently do what needs to be done to find success or see results, keep going. You’ve already beaten those who’ve stopped.

Motivation

Embracing Authenticity

There’s something invigorating about being unapologetically yourself.

Many times, we mask who we truly are out of fear of judgment, not fitting in, or some other negative feeling.

The fact is, real happiness occurs when you’re completely yourself. Often, success accompanies it too.

As long as you’re a good person with good character and intentions, you should never be afraid to be yourself, speak your mind, and sometimes even stand up for yourself.

Unseen Potentials

Today, I observed an older couple using their iPhones. They were using a feature on the phone that I had never seen or used before.

Being much younger than them and somewhat tech-savvy myself, I assumed I knew more than them when it comes to iPhones and their features. I checked my phone to see if it was capable of doing what they were doing on their phones, and sure enough, it was. That was a new discovery for me.

It’s good to have different perspectives around you to learn new things, and it’s good to be aware that you may not know everything, and that you can learn from anyone. Also, just like the iPhone, we all may possess features and beneficial traits that we may not be using yet.

Choosing Success

They say that the road to success and the road to failure are two different paths. Our actions can indicate which specific path we are on.

This insight helps me because even during times of uncertainty, I know I can still make choices to stay on the road to success. I might not always know the estimated time of arrival, but I always know I’m en route and will get there.

Unstoppable Persistence

Persistence doesn’t know day or night.

It doesn’t care about moods or feelings.

It doesn’t care about trials and tribulations; it just keeps going no matter what.

Newton said that objects in motion stay in motion unless a force is applied. Not all forces are the same, though; an object can stay in motion if the force that is applied is not strong enough to stop the object.

When the object that you obtain is persistence, there shouldn’t be many forces that can stop you. Keep going.

Motivation

Urgency with Control

We should all have a sense of urgency in life. After all, we aren’t here forever.

Procrastination can often be our worst enemy. We might overanalyze things and be too slow to act. That’s not good. We can also move too fast, which can cause problems.

Although we don’t want to be slow in life, it’s good to be controlled at times. A controlled approach may involve slowing down a process to ensure precision, accuracy, or safety. There are scenarios where being deliberate and methodical (controlled) can result in a slower pace of action.

Don’t confuse that for counterproductive slowness, though. It’s about doing things as fast and urgently as you can, in a controlled way.

Motivation

Visualizing Success

They say that seeing is believing. That’s something that I definitely agree with.

I have done many things in my life and plan to do many more, just based on seeing others succeed before me and realizing that it’s possible.

Some people can’t believe it until they see results, though. Those are the types who might not want to start a new endeavor with you until they see results, and then they’ll try to join along. By that time, it’s too late.

No matter what it is, we must start with the end in mind. If there’s no one or nothing to model after, that’s fine. Visualize your future self achieving whatever it is you want, and let that be your belief and motivation.

I’ve won a lot of first-place ribbons running track, and every race that I took first place in, I had already visualized myself winning days before. The same goes for life. Once I see and believe, my actions start to follow, leading to whatever I set out to do.

Embracing Daily Practice

Every day involves practice.

Whether intentional or unintentional, we engage in some form of practice.

Practice leads to improvement, so it’s important to focus on something worthwhile.

However, it’s crucial to be mindful of practicing bad habits, as we can become adept at things that are not beneficial.

Embracing the Present for Change

All problems or challenges in life naturally sort themselves out as soon as you take action in the present.

You can’t change where you currently are in the present because that’s based on all the decisions you made in the past. If you do what’s needed to be done in the present, though, you can change your past for the better.

Any mistake that I make, or any actions I took that led me to a predicament that I didn’t want to be in, I try not to dwell on those things too much. Instead, I think of what’s the next right move to make. The next set of actions I can take so the future me is better off.

Time doesn’t go back, and neither do you have to. Continue to move forward no matter what and be ready to make the right choices for a better future.

The future is often closer than we think. That’s a good or bad thing, depending on what we’re doing in the present.
